Developing an orientation and cutting point determination algorithm for a trout fish processing system using machine vision

2019

Abstract Fish processing in small and medium fish supplying centers requires an intelligent system to operate on different sizes. Therefore, an image processing algorithm was developed to extract the proper head and belly cutting points according to the trout dimensions. The algorithm detects the fish orientation and location of pectoral, anal, pelvic, and caudal fins. In this study, each of the trout images was divided into slices along its length in order to segment the fins and extract cutting points. The channel ‘B’ of RGB color space was considered in both initial segmentation and fin detection stages among the examined channels of RGB, HSV, and L*a*b* color spaces. The back-belly and …

Missing Cases of Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) Infection of the Central Nervous System When the Reller Criteria Are Applied for HSV PCR Testing: a Multi…

2019

ABSTRACT Previous studies suggested that herpes simplex virus (HSV) PCR testing can be safely deferred in patients with normal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) white blood cell (WBC) counts and protein levels as long as they are older than 2 years of age and are not immunocompromised, the so-called Reller criteria. In this multicenter study, we retrospectively assessed the validity of these screening criteria in our setting. A total of 4,404 CSF specimens submitted for HSV PCR testing to the respective microbiology laboratories at the participating hospitals between 2012 and 2018 were included. Six commercially available HSV PCR assays were used across the participating centers. Ninety-one of the …

Nested PCR for detection of HSV-1 in oral mucosa

2015

Background: It has been estimated that 15%-20% of human tumours are driven by infection and inflammation, and viral infections play an important role in malignant transformation. The evidence that herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) could be involved in the aetiology of oral cancer varies from weak to persuasive. This study aimed to investigate by nested PCR (NPCR) the prevalence of HSV-1 in samples from normal oral mucosa, oral leukoplakia, and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Material and Methods: We investigated the prevalence of HSV-1 in biopsies obtained from 26 fresh, normal oral mucosa from healthy volunteers as well as 53 oral leukoplakia and 27 OSCC paraffin-embedded samples. D…

Multi-channel chromatic transformations for nonlinear color pattern recognition

2002

We present a new approach for color pattern recognition based on multi-channel nonlinear correlations. High discrimination capability is obtained in comparison with common linear multi-channel detection methods. We apply the nonlinear morphological correlation to different color channel decompositions as RGB and ATD channels. Moreover, in order to improve the discrimination we have introduced a new color transformation. When a high selectivity is required, the combination of the nonlinear correlation and the new color decomposition yields to detect the object using just a single channel. Simulation results are provided.

A neural network based automatic road signs recognizer

2003

Automatic road sign recognition systems are aimed at detection and recognition of one or more road signs from real-world color images. In this research, road signs are detected and extracted from real world scenes on the basis of their color and shape features. A dynamic region growing technique is adopted to enhance color segmentation results obtained in the HSV color space. The technique is based on a dynamic threshold that reduces the effect of hue instability in real scenes due to external brightness variation. Classification is then performed on extracted candidate regions using multilayer perceptron neural networks. The obtained results show good detection and recognition rates of the…

A video-based real-time vehicle counting system using adaptive background method

2008

International audience; This paper presents a video-based solution for real time vehicle detection and counting system, using a surveillance camera mounted on a relatively high place to acquire the traffic video stream. The two main methods applied in this system are: the adaptive background estimation and the Gaussian shadow elimination. The former allows a robust moving detection especially in complex scenes. The latter is based on color space HSV, which is able to deal with different size and intensity shadows. After these two operations, it obtains an image with moving vehicle extracted, and then operation counting is effected by a method called virtual detector.

Recurrent intraoral HSV-1 infection : a retrospective study of 58 immunocompetent patients from Eastern Europe

2010

Objectives. To revise the clinical features of the recurrent intraoral herpetic infection (RIOH) with respect to precipitating factors, demographic, clinical features and outcome. Study design. Fifty-eight, unrelated Caucasian, immunocompetent patients with positive laboratory test for intraoral Herpes simplex virus infection were studied. Results. The mean age in the women?s group (n=42) was 41.23 years (± 21.73) and in the men?s group was 32.25 years (± 15.68). Possible trigger factors were identified in 9 cases (15.5%). General symptoms were noted in 20 cases (34.48%). Most of patients in this study presented multiple lesions. 14 patients had vermillion lesions associated with intraoral …

Three cases of neonatal herpes simplex virus infection presenting as fulminant hepatitis

1990

We report three cases of neonatal herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection presenting as fulminant hepatitis. None of the patients had clear risk factors for HSV infection and they all died. Antiviral treatment for HSV is currently available but must be administered early in the course of the disease before irreversible liver tissue damage is present. Since the diagnosis may be difficult to establish, we wish to draw the attention of clinicians to the presentation of neonatal HSV infection and suggest that in such cases viral cultures, including culture of liver tissue, should be obtained early and antiviral treatment administered while awaiting the culture results.

Prediction of banana quality indices from color features using support vector regression

2015

Banana undergoes significant quality indices and color transformations during shelf-life process, which in turn affect important chemical and physical characteristics for the organoleptic quality of banana. A computer vision system was implemented in order to evaluate color of banana in RGB, L*a*b* and HSV color spaces, and changes in color features of banana during shelf-life were employed for the quantitative prediction of quality indices. The radial basis function (RBF) was applied as the kernel function of support vector regression (SVR) and the color features, in different color spaces, were selected as the inputs of the model, being determined total soluble solids, pH, titratable acid…

Influence of double infections on the induction of thymidine kinase by UV-irradiated herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 and pseudorabies virus

1975

Simultaneous infection of primary rabbit kidney cells with HSV type 1 TK+ and a TK- strain results in a mutual influence of both viruses on the induction of thymidine kinase (TK). TK+ virus has an enhancing and TK- virus a depressing effect on TK induction by a superinfecting TK+ virus. The enzyme induction depends on the ratio of multiplicities of both viruses. The mutual influence on TK induction depends further on the time of addition of the superinfecting virus: the effect of the second virus can still be observed when given 6 hours after primary infection. Identical phenomena can be observed using combinations with HSV type 2 or Pseudorabies viruses. The ability of HSV to induce TK is …
